German- American's are the largest ethnic group in South Dakota at over 40% of the state's population. South Dakota also has a large Norwegian community with 15% of residents having Norwegian ancestry. There is also a large Native American presence: with a population of over 65,000, the Sioux are the state's 4th largest ethnicity.
