Irish Americans remain the largest ethnic group in Massachusetts, 23% of state residents in 2010.

Also notable is the Portuguese community, the state's 7th largest ethnicity. Cape Verdeans share a linguistic background with the Portuguese, and America's largest Cape Verdean community resides in Massachusetts.
