Germans once dominated US immigration. A look at how things have changed

The Pew Research Center looks at the top origin of immigrants by state for each US Census from 1850 through 2013. Germany and the republics of the former U.S.S.R were the largest sources of immigrants from the 19th century through the first half of the 20th century. Changes in immigration policy enacted by Congress in 1965 saw larger shares of immigrants arriving from Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Boston Neighborhoods

Here's look at the largest foreign born populations in Boston, Massachusetts by neighborhood. The map was prepared by the Boston Planning and Development Agency. While often associated with the Irish, Boston's three largest foreign born populations currently hail from China, the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
